comparing and contrasting essay the three writing about skepticism and knowledge

Instructions for the Essay: Our discussion of skepticism has led directly to your Essay assignment.. From the ancient period you will read a very famous story by Plato called “The Cave Analogy.” From the beginning of the modern period, you will read Rene Descartes’ “Evil Demon Hypothesis.” Finally from very recent contemporary times you will read a synopsis of the motion picture “The Matrix.” (NOTE: You are welcome to view this movie if you desire. However, please note that the movie is rated R for language and violence. But you do not need to view the movie in order to fulfill this assignment. The synopsis covers the main idea of the movie for our purposes.) Your essay is to discuss the similarities and differences between these three different presentations in relation to what you have learned about skepticism and epistemology.

There are specific questions you need to address in your essay. Note that you must answer #1 that asks for comparisons in how skepticism is approached, but then at least one more.

Each of #2-4 have you give your own response to the discussion of skepticism from different angles. So the primary question I will ask in grading this is whether you have responded in such a way that argues that we can know truth and that skepticism is simply wrong or untenable. This course has given you the epistemological resources so make good use of them. I will look for that! And note, as I said above, simply saying ‘the Bible says so’, isn’t enough. You would still have to justify your being able to know that the Bible does say so. Simply saying you rely on God is not enough here. You have the tools for a reasoned answer, so pretend you are speaking to an atheist.
